Mardi’s black forest cake is one of our favourites. It is a gateau type cake. You have the choice of having it with or without alcohol. The cake originates back to the 20th century. It is associated with Germany, Austria and it surrounding areas. It is a fancy Renaissance era cake with the combination of sponge cake and cream. Sour fruit including cherries and chocolate are traditionally associated with this cake. The cake is sprinkled with Kirsch and the whole is covered with whipped cream and decorated with chocolate curls.
